Join us for a fun day of creativity featuring paper construction, paint, and polymer clay. We will build a detailed miniature art gallery from paper and boxes, then create unique frames from polymer clay. After baking the frames, we will paint them and craft mini artworks on canvases, sculptures, and decorations to personalise your gallery.
This class is suitable for beginners. All Art materials are provided.

Starry Night
(needle felting, sewing)
Discover the work of Vincent Van Gogh as we recreate his famous "Starry Night" using the tactile art of needle felting. In the morning, we will have fun with pencils and watercolours to study his famous artwork. In the afternoon, we will transform our drawings into textural artwork using wool fibres. We will finish our fluffy masterpiece by sewing on sparkly beads to capture the night sky. This class is suitable for children from seven years old. All Art materials are provided.

Star Constellation Art

Join us to learn about the stars and create your own star constellation art just in time before the appearance of the Matariki stars. We will experiment with masking fluid and watercolour technique in the morning, then spend the afternoon painting canvases, sewing beads and adding glitter to represent your favourite star constellation. This class is suitable for beginners. All Art materials are provided.

Join us to explore the incredible art of Wassily Kandinsky. In the morning, we will create artworks inspired by his vibrant, abstract style. In the afternoon, we will examine the magic of acrylic pouring, looking into the "puddle pour" technique, learning how to mix a pouring medium and move paint across the canvas to create stunning effects. Join us to admire and focus on the beauty of winged insects in this nature-inspired day. In the morning, we will build and paint insects with wings using papier-mache. After lunch, we will craft a beaded dragonfly suncatcher using wire and beads, perfect for hanging in a window to catch the winter rainbow. This class is suitable for beginners. Clay Heads à la Picasso

Spend a day inspired by the innovative Pablo Picasso. We will begin by creating mixed-media self-portraits, exploring his various artistic styles and techniques. After lunch, we will draw inspiration from his Cubist era to decorate clay heads using acrylic paints, experimenting with geometrical shapes and bold colours. This class is suitable for beginners. Holiday Programme Information
The Crafty Steps Holiday Programme is a skills-based introductory program, teaching simple Arts and Crafts techniques. Our programme is run in a small creative environment to nurture a passion for learning. The number of students is limited to ten to ensure the best learning outcomes and promote a fun experience for each student.
Each student must bring a drink bottle, morning tea and lunch. Fruit will be provided. If it is a wet day, please bring a raincoat or jacket.
Fees are to be paid at the time of booking. We do not refund Holiday Programme fees if your child is unwell to unable to attend. However, we will give you a credit to choose another programme or class in the future.
Caregivers are not required to stay during our class time.However, you are welcome to wait till your child is settled in and happy for you to leave.
Our Holiday Programme is being held at The Crafty Steps Studio, 18 Collingwood Street, New Brighton, Christchurch. VIEW OUR LOCATION.
