Wednesday 14 January 9 am  - 3 pm 

Create your own Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (paper,paint,clay)

Join us for a day filled with creating your own design of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the morning, we will bring the world of Harry Potter and his school to life using paper construction and boxes. After we paint and decorate our buildings, we'll create the crest of your favourite house of Hogwarts.  After lunch, we will craft heroes and mischievous villains, pets and magical companies from air clay inspired by the Harry Potter books. This class is suitable for beginners. All Art materials are provided.

Thursday 15 January  9 am - 3 pm

Felted Birds Hand Puppets
(felting, sewing)

Come and learn an ancient technique of wet felting and about our native birds. At the start of the day, we will draw ideas and designs of the chosen native birds -   kererū, pukeko, kororā or hoiho. Later, we turn our birds' drawings into felt and create hand puppets. After lunch, we will add detail with beads or fabric.  This class is suitable for beginners from seven years old. All Art materials are provided.

Gustav Klimt & Acrylic Pouring (chalk, oil pastels, acrylic pouring)

Join us for a busy day as we explore the world of Klimt's golden era women. Our morning will focus on directed drawing, followed by a study of patterns inspired by Klimt's stunning artworks, where you'll add elements to create your own Klimt-inspired collage. In the afternoon, we will have fun with the Acrylic Pouring technique. Each student will learn how to mix the pouring medium with acrylic paint to create a vibrant pour on a small canvas. This class is suitable for beginners. All Art materials are provided.

Cardboard Bakery
(paper construction, paint, clay )

Join us for a delightful day of creativity as we step into the shoes of pastry chefs in a specialty cake shop. We’ll start our fun day by designing and crafting a simple cake or slice out of cardboard. We'll bring our creations to life with vibrant paints and a variety of drippy sauces. Next, we work with self-drying clay to create icing and sweet embellishments. This class is suitable for beginners. All Art materials are provided.

Wanaka Tree 
(wire, beads, paper, fabric)

Join us for an exciting day as we turn wire and beads and create our Wānaka Tree, inspired by the willow tree located at Lake Wānaka. After lunch, we experiment with wire, beads, paper and fabric as we craft flowers and blooms that never wilt, flower collage and more. This class is suitable for beginners. All Art materials are provided.

Glass Pendants and Bracelets (watercolours, decoupage)

Join us for a creative day where you’ll learn how to decorate clear glass cabochons and transform them into custom-designed pendants! In the morning, we will explore various watercolour techniques to create designs for your cabochon pendants. After lunch, we’ll learn the art of the decoupage technique to decorate bracelets. This class is suitable for beginners. All Art materials are provided.

Little Felted Bag  
(wet felting, sewing)

Join us for a full day of creativity as we explore the traditional art of wet felting! We’ll start the day by designing a little bag with a shoulder strap. After learning various wet felting techniques, you’ll craft your own stunning bag from wool fibres. After lunch, we’ll add the finishing touches with beads and details to make it truly unique!

This class is suitable for beginners. All Art materials are provided.

​Henri Rousseau's Jungle
(pencils, chalk, clay)

Join us for an exciting day dedicated to the incredible artist Henri Rousseau! In the morning, we'll have fun drawing a jungle inspired by his vibrant artworks, filled with animals and exotic plants. In the afternoon, we'll bring Rousseau's creations to life using air clay, creating cute animals peeking through lush greenery. Prepare for a hands-on experience brimming with creativity and texture! This class is suitable for beginners. All Art materials are provided.

Vertical Hanging Gardens
(paint, paper, clay)

Join us for a day full of fun with soft and squishy air clay as we explore vertical garden design. In the morning, we’ll study different flowers and plants and create a botanical collage. In the afternoon, we transform our collage and drawings into an inspiration for a vertical garden made from soft and colourful air clay. This class is suitable for beginners. All Art materials are provided.

Wednesday 28 January 9 am - 3 pm

Frida Inspired Flower Pots 
(painting & clay)

Come and learn about the extraordinary artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera! Our morning will be focused on painting, inspired by their artworks, which reflect their love for Mexico, flowers, butterflies, and nature. After lunch, we will have fun with colourful clay as we create embellishments for our clay pots inspired by Frida's famous look, adorned with flowers. This class is suitable for beginners. All Art materials are provided.

COST: $75 - last space available

Holiday Programme Information

The Crafty Steps Holiday Programme is a skills-based introductory program, teaching simple Arts and Crafts techniques. Our programme is run in a small creative environment to nurture a passion for learning. The number of students is limited to ten to ensure the best learning outcomes and promote a fun experience for each student. 

Each student must bring a drink bottle, morning tea and lunch. Fruit will be provided. If it is a wet day, please bring a raincoat or jacket.


Fees are to be paid at the time of booking. We do not refund Holiday Programme fees if your child is unwell to unable to attend. However, we will give you a credit to choose another programme or class in the future.

Caregivers are not required to stay during our class time.However, you are welcome to wait till your child is settled in and happy for you to leave.

Our Holiday Programme is being held at The Crafty Steps Studio, 18 Collingwood Street, New Brighton, Christchurch. VIEW OUR LOCATION
